Sabrina #1 Review at Comics for Sinners

sabrina01Over at the news site Comics for Sinners, you’ll find my review of Chilling Adventures of Sabrina #1, on sale now from Archie Comics. Written by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa (Afterlife with Archie) and illustrated by Robert Hack (Kolchak: The Lovecraftian Damnation), it’s a brand-new, non-AwA series set in the 1960s, with a tone influenced by such horror classics as The Omen and Rosemary’s Baby. The daughter of a human woman and a warlock father, teenage witch Sabrina Spellman seems destined for a life filled with horrors—and she might be the one creating them! If you like smartly written horror comics, or you’ve been enjoying Afterlife with Archie, then visit C4S and read all about this new supernatural must-read.

If you’re into character-driven horror with a Blair Witch Project sort of feel, then Wytches just might be a comic you want to pick. Head over to C4S and check out the review!

Cinderella: Age of Darkness #1 Review at Comics for Sinners

cinderella01-cvrNow at the news site Comics for Sinners, you can read my review of Cinderella: Age of Darkness #1, which goes on sale November 5th from Zenescope Entertainment. Written by Pat Shand (Charmed: Season 10) and illustrated by newcomer Ryan Best, it’s the Harley Quinn–esque tale of a psychotic sorority sister (and part-time assassin) who’s chosen by the evil Dark Queen to go forth and slay Hades, god of hell. Considering everyone she knows—including the queen—expects her to fail on this suicide mission, you might even find yourself rooting for the bad girl in this postapocalyptic dark-fantasy comedy! Head over to C4S to find out what I’m talking about.

Vampirella #6 Review at Comics for Sinners

VampiVol2-06-CovJust in time for Halloween, over at the news site Comics for Sinners, you’ll find my review of Vampirella, Vol. 2 #6, which goes on sale November 5th from Dynamite Entertainment. Writer Nancy A. Collins (Sunglasses After Dark, Red Sonja) and artists Patrick Berkenkotter (Dynamite’s Project: Superpowers) and Dennis Crisostomo (Marvel’s Emma Frost) bring to an end Vampi’s world tour of drinking the blood of legendary vampires, and then have her confront the Cult of Chaos as she makes one last attempt to avoid being possessed by the spirit of Lady Umbra, the sister-wife of the mad god Chaos! Head over to C4S to learn how Collins’s first Vampirella story arc turns out.

Lorelei: Sects and the CityAnd speaking of supernatural heroines battling ancient cults, perhaps you might like to read Lorelei: Sects and the City, the StarWarp Concepts graphic novel that stars a soul-stealing succubus in battle with a cult of Elder God worshipers attempting to unleash hell on Earth. This critically acclaimed adventure is, at its core, a love letter to 1970s horror comics, written by Steven A. Roman (that’s me), and illustrated by Eliseu Gouveia (Vengeance of the Mummy), Steve Geiger (Web of Spider-Man), and Neil Vokes (Johnny Demon), with a cover by legendary Vampirella artist Esteban Maroto. You Say You Like Occult Adventurers?

constantineMonster fans everywhere are over the moon with happiness, because tonight there are two television series premiering on NBC-TV. First off there’s the fourth season opener of Grimm, the popular series about a cop turned monster hunter. That’s immediately followed by the debut of Constantine, starring Matt Ryan as the live-action version of DC Comics’ master of the occult introduced in the series Hellblazer (and not to be confused with the film starring Keanu Reeves, although it was based on the same property). So if monster-fighting heroes are your thing, then let me introduce you to some SWC titles you might be interested in…

blood_feud_medThe Saga of Pandora Zwieback chronicles the adventures of sixteen-year-old Pandora Zwieback, a Gothy horror fangirl who possesses amazing powers that she just learned about, including the ability to see past the human disguises worn by monsters to blend in with society. Those powers come in handy when Pan, her parents, and her friends are catapulted into the midst of a war among rival vampire clans in search of what they believe is an ultimate weapon. Pan’s story begins in the novel Blood Feud: The Saga of Pandora Zwieback, Book 1, written by Steven A. Roman (that’s me), the bestselling author of the novels X-Men: The Chaos Engine Trilogy and Final Destination: Dead Man’s Hand.

Heartstopper_CoverHeartstopper: The Legend of La Bella Tenebrosa is a three-issue comic-book miniseries from 1995, starring Sebastienne “Annie” Mazarin, who currently acts as mentor to Pandora Zwieback in Pan’s novel series. Annie is a 400-year-old, shape-shifting monster hunter, and in this mini, published during the height of what became known as comic book’s notorious “bad-girl era” It’s written by Steven A. Roman (yep, me again) and illustrated by Uriel Caton (JSA Annual #1), Holly Golightly (School Bites), and David C. Matthews (Satin Steele). And best of all, all three issues are available for free download!

Loelei: Sects and the CityLorelei: Sects and the City is a mature readers’ graphic novel about Lorelei Munro, a flame-haired succubus who uses her soul-stealing powers to target bad guys—like the Elder God worshipers she crosses paths with. The cult wants to revive the former masters of Earth, and if Lori isn’t careful she might find herself becoming the latest blood sacrifice instead of humanity’s savior. It’s written by Steven A. Roman (are you surprised?), and illustrated by Eliseu Gouveia (The Phantom), Steve Geiger (Web of Spider-Man), and Neil Vokes (The Black Forest).

troubleshooters_lrg_coverTroubleshooters, Incorporated: Night Stalkings is a general readers’ graphic novel about a group of supernatural-superheroes-for-hire taking on their first case. The team consists of a wizard, a female ninja, a sorceress, a werewolf, and a rock ’n’ roll lighting designer wearing high-tech armor. Sure, they might not be on a power level with the Avengers or Justice League of America—they’re more like superpowered Ghostbusters—but they get the job done. The graphic novel is written by the husband-and-white team of Richard C. White (The Ultimate Hulk) and Joni M. White, and illustrated by Reggie Golden and Randy Zimmerman.

Visit each of the titles’ pages for more information, including sales links, sample art, and sample chapters.
