2015 StarWarp Concepts Convention Tour

SWC-Bklyn-Sign

These days, convention season seems to start earlier and end later, so here’s where you’ll find the StarWarp Concepts crew this year. If you’re attending any of these conventions and book festivals, be sure to stop by and say hello!

January 17–18: NY Horror Show: Considering how expensive it is to book a venue in the Big Apple, a horror convention in the New York City area is a rarity; I think Fangoria magazine finally threw in the towel two or three years ago. So when the folks who run Eternal Con—who also co-produced last month’s inaugural WinterCon—announced that they were holding a new horror con in Happauge, Long Island, I decided to make that SWC’s first stop. I’ll let you know how it turns out, when I post my con report after the show.

July 18: Connecticut HorrorFest: Another new horror show! This one’s celebrating its second year, and apparently the first one was so successful they’ve had to move it to a larger venue (always an encouraging sign). And with guests like Doug Bradley (Pinhead of the Hellraiser movies) and Gunnar Hansen (Leatherface from the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre) bringing in the crowds, it seemed like a good opportunity to introduce horror fans to The ’Warp.

September 20: Brooklyn Book Festival: This one’s become a mainstay for us at ’Warp Central—a pleasant surprise from my initial concerns about it being some high-brow gathering that would look down on stories about Goth chicks and succubi and vampires, but that’s what happens when some exhibitors and authors pretentiously refer to themselves as “the literati.” Yet it’s here that SWC has had the most success, both in terms of finances and growing a fan base, so it’s now the show I’ve come to look forward to the most.

October 3: Collingswood (NJ) Book Festival: We missed last year’s show, so let’s hope this year’s debut appearance turns out better. 😉  I’ve heard good things about it (when the weather’s nice), so it should be an interesting excursion to the farthest reaches of the Garden State.

December 5–6: WinterCon: I’m not sure about a full-blown return to comic shows, given the poor responses at NYCC and Eternal Con. But with Lorelei: House Macabre out this year, a graphic novel by Pan and Lorelei artist Eliseu Gouveia scheduled for 2016 (more on that another day), and a Lorelei project under development (ditto), this is a way to test the waters.
